Lachlan Goudie's previous shows at
Stenton Gallery have featured the Brittany landscape of maternal roots, views
of Parisian life from his Montmartre apartment and scenes from a visit to
India. For his third solo exhibition with us, the young artist quits his London
studio and returns to his native Scotland.
As ever, he demonstrates original composition skills and a singular use of bold
colour in capturing the real Scotland. From photographs taken at the roadside
and images sketched in the open air emerge paintings of Loch Lomond, the
Campsie Fells, the plains of Stirling and the hills and valleys of Breadalbane,
all illustrating the drama of landscape which would be wilderness but for the
intrusions of man. The artist, intrigued, allows his brush to dwell on isolated
farms and garages, electricity pylons,
even the occasional roadsign.
