Stenton Gallery
Liz Knox

When, in 2003, Liz Knox made the decision to give up her Fine Art lectureship to concentrate on painting, she found herself in an unanticipated whirlwind of activity. This graduate of Edinburgh College of Art learned on the same day that she had won the Aspect Prize, the biggest art prize of its time. Liz’s ensuing show in London marked her triumph as a full-time artist and has ever since kept her busy at her easel, meeting the demand from galleries throughout Britain. We ourselves experienced an early indication of the ‘pull’ of Liz’s work with the ten pieces she exhibited in our New Faces show of January that year and we are pleased now to announce her long-awaited first solo show at Stenton Gallery this October.

As is to be expected of a student of Philipson and Michie, Liz demonstrates fine painterly and compositional skills. All her works are in oils on linen and all blend elements of still life into favourite landscapes from home and abroad. Liz describes her painting process as ‘a carpet of thoughts and artefacts, often combining exterior and interior settings.’

Now based with her family in the west of Scotland, Liz continues to win awards. She is an elected artist member of Glasgow Art Club, Paisley Art Institute and the Glasgow Society of Women Artists, and an elected professional member of Visual Arts Scotland. Somehow she also finds time to support the running of these organisations and is (September 2007) President-Elect of Paisley Art Institute.
